This web page has been revived from the archive for historic purposes. The original ad was as follows:
Being sold "as is."
Fully restored in 2001 (body work, new fenders, new axle, new floor, new wheels, new bumpers, new moldings and trim, interior kit).
Operated year round since. Rust never sleeps. Body will probably not certify. (See picture showing door sag.)
Currently being operated in Toronto (I can take you for a spin).
Good transmission, recently rebuilt engine with great pep.
Recent electrical system overhaul.
I have all maintenance and repair receipts for last 12 years.
MAKES GREAT DONOR CAR e.g. for dune buggy project.
I sold the car in 2009, almost a year after putting it up for sale. It was costing me $50 per month parking just to keep it, and I wasn't driving it anywhere. Didn't want to renew the plate, or my insurance, any more. I was asking $900 and accepted $700.
Kenny, the guy who bought the car, was going to make a dune buggy out of it. He promised me I'd get to take a ride in it. Maybe I should follow up and see what happened.
Considering the original purchase price and the cost of subsequent restoration, not to mention repairing numerous mechanical and electric failures over the years, I basically paid humoungously for the privilege of tootling about town in a '69 beetle. But how much is that in happiness per mile? I'm glad you asked; let me 'splain it to you.
Beetles are sheer joy to drive. The sound of the engine—everybody recognizes a Beetle engine when they hear one—is just awesome. You get lots of admiring looks, and many "Peace" signs. Watching people punch each other in the shoulder and laugh about it as you drive by is also rewarding.
I have many fond memories of this car. Maybe I'll write them up some day.
