One hot cardinal
On the hottest day of 2011

After working the morning shift in air-conditioned comfort, I face the prospect of an afternoon in the cement oven of my one-window apartment.
Off to the ravines.
Downtown, at the top of the Rosedale Ravine, a cardinal fidgets feebly in a tree on Crescent Road. Normally cardinals are wary and do not allow such a close approach.

I feel as tired as he looks. It's 38°C, and 51°C with the humidex. For you boomers and Americans out there, that's 100° in the old Fahrenheit scale, a wilting 124°F with the humidex.
